Fancy Text Compatibility Guide: What Works Where

Not all fancy text is created equal. Bold sails through everywhere; zalgo glitch text can fall apart. This guide maps which style families work where — so you can pick the right style before you post, not after.

The One Principle

Compatibility cannot be predicted with certainty — it depends on the app version, the OS, and the device’s fonts. The practical rule: test before anything important. Paste a sample into our compatibility checker to see how exotic your text is.

Style Families, Ranked by Safety

  • Bold, italic, cursive — excellent everywhere, including decade-old phones. The safest choice.
  • Fraktur and blackletter — good on all modern devices.
  • Small caps and small text — good; a few rare small-cap letters may miss on old devices.
  • Bubble and enclosed letters — good on modern devices; old phones may show boxes.
  • Fullwidth (vaporwave) — good on modern devices.
  • Strikethrough and underline — mostly good; built from combining marks, occasionally trimmed.
  • Zalgo glitch text — risky. Can render as a mess, and some apps strip the extra marks.

Platform Notes

  • Instagram / TikTok: bios, captions, and comments accept everything; @handles accept plain text only.
  • Discord: nicknames and messages accept everything; global usernames are restricted.
  • WhatsApp: chats, status, and profile fields accept Unicode styles.
  • X (Twitter): posts and display names accept styles; handles do not.
  • Games: varies by title — some normalize names on save. Test in-game first.

Three Golden Rules

  1. Test on the target app before posting anything important.
  2. Keep critical info — links, numbers, instructions — in plain text.
  3. When in doubt, choose bold or cursive. They never break.
